Rev. Dr. Andreá Cummings is a native of Arkansas and has had a diverse and dynamic career path that has led her to where she is today. Before responding to the call to ministry, she gained valuable experience working for Farmers, Nationwide, and Bank of America insurance companies as a Property & Casualty and life insurance agent. Despite finding success in the insurance industry, she felt a strong calling to ministry in 2011 and decided to transition from her insurance career to pursue this new path she felt God was calling her toward.
After returning to Arkansas, she completed her Master of Education in Special Education. She then took on a teaching role, and her dedication and passion for education led to her promotion as the Special Education Director at Little Rock Preparatory Academy. At the same time, she was exploring a call to ministry in the United Methodist Church.
In 2018, she became a provisional elder, and by 2020, Dr. Cummings was ordained as an Elder in Full Connection in the Arkansas Annual Conference of The United Methodist Church. She has broken barriers as the first African American woman to serve as an associate pastor in two historic cross-racial appointments in the Arkansas Annual Conference of The United Methodist Church. Her journey from the corporate world to education and ministry reflects her unwavering commitment to making a difference in the lives of others.
Dr. Cummings is committed to being present in the communities where she pastors. In 2019, she was the only woman clergy member under forty who Mayor Frank Scott, Jr. appointed to the city of Little Rock’s Quality of Life subcommittee. She also served as a DEI Ambassador for Mayor Stephanie Orman of Bentonville, Arkansas. Currently, she is a commissioner for the St. Mary's Housing Authority and the Religious Chair for NAACP 7025 St. Mary's County Branch.
Additionally, Dr. Cummings graduated from the University of Arkansas at Fayetteville with a Bachelor of Arts in Communication. She is a graduate of Grand Canyon University, where she earned a Master of Business Administration and a Master of Education in Special Education. She also graduated from Emory University, where she earned a Master of Divinity degree with an emphasis on Church planting, Scripture, and interpretation. She is a recent graduate of Memphis Theological Seminary where she earned a Doctorate in Ministry in Womanist Discourse.
Dr. Cummings has been the lead pastor of Zion United Methodist Church in Lexington Park, Maryland, since 2022. She is also an author, teacher, and pickleball enthusiast who enjoys cheering for the Arkansas Razorbacks and LeBron James.
